Fuji Folder Folding Mountain Bike - Red

Two flats, one leaf

I never really got the point of this red Fuji Folder folding mountain bike. It might fit in the trunk of your car, but only if you have a big car. On the trail, it would probably suffer from excessive flex and low end componentry. It's not a folding bike, or a mountain bike, but an odd combination of the two.

I can't decide if it looks cool or not. I decided: yes

Components on the Fuji Folder include a 15-speed driveline with Shimano SIS thumb shifters, 26-inch alloy wheels, and cantilever brakes. Surprisingly, according to the decal on the seat tube, the frame tubing is 4130 chromoly. The rest of the bike sports mostly low-end steel parts.

This Fuji Folder was in pretty rough shape, and some new goodies would have helped.

Once your brake lever bolts get rusty, forget it

Beneath the bottom pivot, the Fuji Folder's frame is stamped "REDLOF" above its serial number. I actually did a Google search for "redlof" before I realized that it was just "FOLDER" backwards. Clever, Fuji. Clever.

Unfortunately, I never had time to clean, tune, ride, fold or unfold the Fuji Folder. Maybe it's fun to ride a folding mountain bike. Maybe it isn't. Maybe I'll find out next time. Until then, I (and you) can look at these photos and wonder.

Shimano SIS thumb shifters. Why don't bikes still use these?

Steel and rust and a quick-release stem

Triple cable guides, top frame pivot, quick-release seatpost
