1988 GT Performer BMX Freestyle Bike - Chrome
The 1988 GT Performer came equipped with a chromoly freestyle frame and fork, GT/Viscount seat, U.S.A.-made GT six-spoke Performer mag wheels, GT freestyle tires, GT freestyle handlebars, chromoly GT layback seatpost, GT alloy stem, Odyssey Gyro brake detangler, ACS 860 front brake and chainstay-mounted center-pull rear brake, locking alloy brake levers, GT/A'me grips, a steel GT freestyle sprocket, and a drilled alloy GT seatpost clamp. For a low-end bike, it was pretty well decked out.
The frame and fork have some great details, like the GT logos on the dropouts, top tube and fork caps, the bottom bracket cable guide for the center-pull brakes, a built-in coaster brake bracket, and the crazy top tube-seat tube-standing platform junction.
This particular Performer also came equipped with an ugly layer of surface rust, a seized seatpost and an assortment of dings. Ten minutes with a garden hose and steel wool took care of most of the rust. The seatpost and the dings are someone else's problem.
